The VIIIth
International Astronomy Olympiad was organized on October 2-8, 2003 in Stockholm, Sweden
at Saltsjöbadens Samskola and the Stockholm Observatory. 55 students from 12 countries participated, and there were observers from two more countries. The participants came from Armenia, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Romania, Russia, South Korea and Sweden.
The main
organizers of the Olympiad were the Euro-Asian Astronomical Society (directly by the Olympic Coordinating Council), the Swedish section of the European Association for Astronomy Education, Saltsjöbadens Samskola, Stockholm Observatory and the Swedish National Space Board.
Autorized
National Representative Astronomy Organizations (ANRAO) of the
participating countries were authorized to form the teams of the Olympiad
member-states.
All teams participating in the olympiad were be met by the Local Organizing Committee at the Stockholm-Arlanda airport (if arriving by air) or at the ferry terminals of Silja Line and Viking Line (if arriving by ferry).

The official languages of the Olympiad were English and Russian. The problems were
prepared by the Organizing Committee in these two languages and the
leaders were responsible for the translation to the native languages of
the participants just before the rounds (three hours before).
The place of lodging for the teams was Vandrarhem Zinkensdamm (a hostel at a central location in Stockholm, close to the Metro station Zinkensdamm). You can visit the website of Zinkensdamm to read more about the hostel. Chose Youth Hostel from the menu at the bottom of the page.

Currency The currency in Sweden is krona (eng: Swedish Crown) which is divided in 100 öre. The abbreviation for krona is kr, and the code is SEK.
Banknotes in circulation are 20, 50, 100, 500, 1000 kr.
Coins in circulation are 50 öre, 1 kr, 5 kr and 10 kr. At Currency Exchange Deluxe you can see the current exchange rates between more than 60 currencies and the Swedish krona.
